GM-GMC: How to replace a serpentine belt, tensioner pulley, chevy c

Question
Hi!
How do I replace the serpentine belt for a 93 Chevy C/K 2500 Silverado with the 6.5 Turbo Diesel engine.
Thanks!

Answer
Butch,

I do not own a vehicle with a serpentine drive system, but they are all pretty much the same.

First, make sure you have a decal showing the belt routing.  If not, draw yourself a sketch of it so you know how to install the new belt.

After that, find the tensioner pulley.  There should be a square 1/2" hole that allows a ratchet, breaker bar, and/or extension to fit into it.  This allows the ratchet or breaker bar to be used as a lever to move the tensioner against its spring and slip the belt off the tensioner pulley.

You can then work the belt off all the other pulleys and off the front of the engine (getting it over the fan blades will require some extra effort).

Installation is the reverse of removal, with placing the belt under tension as the last step.  Be sure and check the tensioner pulley for noise and its ability to spin freely before putting a new belt on it.
