GM-GMC: power windows, negative battery cable, chevy van

Question
i have an 88 chevy van.  the power window, drivers side stopped working.  the window is down now.  i checked the fuse and the switch.  it is either the motor or electrical.  1) i took the door panel off, but how does the motor come out.  2) how do i get the window up for now, until i can check the motor.

thank you in advance,

brian

Answer
The closest I can come is the information from a 1986 Chilton's mnaual.

For window motor removal, it reads:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the door panel.
3. Remove the window regulator for clearance (if necessary).
4. Disconnect the wiring connector to the window motor.
5. Remove the motor to door frame bolts.
6. Remove the window motor.
7. Installation is the reverse of removal.

I have written a note in my Chilton's book that says to unbolt and slide window regulator forward to remove motor.  I know that I wrote this note after changing the driver's side window motor in my 83 G-20 without removing the glass.
