GM-GMC: transmission, chevy custom, 700r transmission

I have a 1989 Chevy Custom Deluxe 1/2 ton pick-up with a 350 vortex engine in it and am trying to install a 700r transmission out of a 1994 Chevy.  The tranny has 12 wires running from electric plug and an accessory plug but can only find 6 wires on my vortex motor.  Will this work and if so....HOW?  Thank you very much for your time.

I'll have to do some digging to be sure but you may have some tough problems ahead. The 94 tranny uses a different wiring harnest as you have discovered, and the electronics in you 89 are going to be very different from that of the 94 truck. The 94 700r has much more electronic control and monitoring then the 89 witch has practically none. To adapt the 700r you may be into a wiring harnest out of the truck the 700r came from and if equiped the trans.control module(TCM) I don't know if you have access to these parts but they may be necessary just to get the 700r to work. I'll try to find out for sure what your up against on mon.
