GM-GMC: Chev Astro/GM Safari, chevy vans, breed dogs

Question
I need to purchase one of the two vans listed above to transport my gaint breed dogs.  Because I am going to use it for the dogs and scuba diving, I decided not to buy new.  Looking at various used models it appears that the van's length has changed over the years.  Is this right or is it just an illusion?  If so what year did they become longer?

Additionally if you can tell me of any years to avoid purchasing that would be appreciated.  I'm looking at 1995 or newer vans.

Answer
Well here is some good news. The chevy vans have had a lot of success. My dad has a 95 and it is still in excellent condition and only had one problem that was minor. I do not here a lot of complaints or problems. I can run vins to check history on the vehicle.

As far as getting a long van every year had a extended van option. I would suggest using the www.gmbuypower.com or www.autotrader.com they list good vehicles. Also I would avoid buying a pre-owned that was a fleet. I can also check that by the vin.

If you find some that you are interested in send me the vin via my site at http://rfi_history.tripod.com
