GM-GMC: Trans Swap, 700r4 trans, tail shaft

Question
I want to change the trans in a 1990 Chevy half ton 350 700R4 Trans. My question is that the trans that I want to use is a earlier 700R4 does not have the ABS and Speed Sensor in the tail shaft. Can I swap tail shafts they both measure the same or would there be a problem with the trans out put shaft due to the ABS.
Thanks For Your Time

Answer
Let me tell you in my experience you are better off swaping transmissions of the same build. If the first one had the ABS and speed sensor in the tail shaft then the second one should have the same. Even though they are the same trans they don't necessarily have the same output or specs, it is just like an engine, the LT1 was a corvette engine and put out 405 horse power, however it also was put in the camaro and barely put out 350 horse power. Maybe that earlier 700R4 may be the same part, but was used in a different year and may not have the same specifications as the one you took out.

Under some cases if the trans is the same and the tail shaft has the same dimensions then I don't see why you couldn't just go ahead and switch, but if the swaped trans was not built to have that type of tail shaft then you may run into problems later.

So my recommendation is to put the same type of trans you take out, back in.
