GM-GMC: GMC daytime running lights, fuse block, daytime running lights

Question
Last two months when I would start my 1996 GMC pickup the daytime running lights would not come on for several days. Even when I try to turn on the light switch the lights will not come on. But, with the lights switch on and me clicking on the high beams, those lights do light up. Then other times I get in the truck and the lights work. The first time it did that was after I engaged the emergency brake. I beleive a switch from the emergency brake pedal may be the problem. Could that be possible?

Answer
I suppose that could be a problem if it was sticking and not allowing the signal that the parking brake was released. Did you check the fuse for the DRL? The fuse block access door is on the driver's side edge of the instrument panel. Pull off the cover to access the fuse block. You can remove fuses with a fuse extractor. The fuse extractor is mounted to the fuse block access door. To
remove fuses if you don't have a fuse extractor, hold the
end of the fuse between your thumb and index finge and pull straight out. It will be fuse number 15 (DRL Relay, Fog Lamp Relay) in that block. There are no recalls on this issue or special policies for this vehicle.

So there is more than one possibility, it could be due to a fault to the parking brake relay, or the headlamp switch is faulty or possibly the ambient sensor has a problem. The ambient sensor is what senses light from dark. Take it to a TRUSTED mechanic in your area and see what they have to say about it.
