Honda: Radiator Hoze blew up, radiator hose, rattling sound

Question
Hi

I have a 93 honda civic with 130k on it. While driving on the interstate, i suddenly heard some rattling sound. When i pulled over, and opened the hood, i saw hot steam coming out of my radiator hose (upper hose i think). I saw some spilled liquid too (not sure if it was oil). Not sure abt how big the problem, i just drove home (~10 mi). the engine temp read over the red sign and the engine check sign came on. Do i just have to change the radiator hose? Have damaged my engine by driving home? how much will it cost to repair the problem?

But one good thing was the engine did not die (it did lose some power). i have never had any problems with the car before.

Thanks

Answer
Sounds like a new hose.  12 years and 130,000 miles may be time for a new radiator as well.  If you can't shell out the dough for a new one, at least flush the current one.  After the repairs, you need to reset the Check Engine Light (CEL).  Easy to do by disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds or so...which you should probably do anyway to work on the radiator.  If the CEL comes back on, then there is still a problem in your system.

Good Luck,
Barrett
