Mazda: 1991 Mazda Protege, mazda dealership, independent technicians

Question
I have had my car for about 6 months and out of that time I have been able to drive it all of 2 weeks (off and on). I can drive it for a couple of days and then it will either start to spit n sputter then die, or just die all together like u have shut off the ignition. Sometimes it will start back up, but sometimes I have to get it towed. So far it has cost me a lot of $ and gave me no driving satisfaction. It has a new fuel pump and alternator on it. I have taken it to a few different mechanics and none of them have been able to diagnose the problem, they cant even agree on what could possibly be wrong.
PLEASE, help me, I cant spend another dime on it until I have a TRUE professional's opinion on it! Thank you, Tara

Answer
Hi Tara and thanks for the question.  In my personal observation the Protege is usually trouble free.  I am not a mechanic, but you dont mention if you took the vehicle to a Mazda dealership.  I realize they cost more but they are equipped to diagnose problems that most independent technicians are unable to do.  Let me know how you make out.  Best of luck, Bud
