Mercedes: 190e 8v timing chain tensioner, head gasket, head bolt

Redid my head gasket and am in the process of putting on my old tensioner ..It is the old style on on my 1984 190e  with the tensioner housng and the spring and cap..It goes in fine but I am wondering how far do I have to put the housing tensioner 17mm allen head bolt in?? I do not see no  guides and have no idea what the torque is.. If I look down the chain I can see a mark on the rod but that ma appear for it to be too loose ..
