Question
QUESTION: Car runs fine, but for some reason the remote will not lock or unlock doors also the lock button on the interior will not lock/unlock the front passenger side door. Already changed out batteries on 2 different remotes(but still doesn't work). Also tried to follow manual to reprogram the remotes since the batteries were changed out. Checked all fuses under the hood, under the dash and in back seat. All is fine.

ANSWER: Ted,

QUESTION: I have a 97 E420

ANSWER: Ted,
This could be a failure of the remote signal receiver or the antenna lead for it. Before you go there, I would try this. Turn off all the accessories and radio. Pull the hood release. manually lock the doors and trunk. Maker sure you allow all the locks to cycle before removing the key.
Open the hood. Remove the battery terminals (-) first then (+). Clean the terminals and battery post very well. The battery needs to be in top condition to operate everything on the vehicle. It should be in full charge.
Leave the terminal off for 30 minutes. This should reset the on board computer and and security system that is factory installed.
Reattach the terminals (+) first then (-). Close the hood.
Remembering the correct direction of rotation use the key to unlock the vehicle. Wait until all the locks have cycled until you remove the key.
Start the vehicle and allow it to run for a few minutes. If you are sure you have the electronic key properly activate give it a try to lock the vehicle.

If non on this work, I would look for a broken wire coming from the body to the door. It is not uncommon for the wires in the harness to break within the insulation. And this could explain the fact the the switch will not operate the passenger side door.
Good Luck

QUESTION: We tried all the above except take the door apart. The dashboard door lock button works now for all door locks, but the remote still doesn't work as well as the door key hole on the front passenger door. There is no way to lock the doors except thru the truck key hole. The rear view mirror remote sensor and the front driver side remote sensor still doesn't light up.

Answer
Ted,
It may be necessary to have the dealer reprogram you remote. Without being able to actually see the vehicle I am not able to provide additional help.

I can suggest that you post to http://www.benzworld.org/forums/    and see if you have someone there respond to your inquiry.
Good Luck
