Mercedes: wont start, fuel pump relay, water in the fuel

QUESTION: i was driving on the frwy and punched it, suddenly the engine stalled and it's been an ongoing mystery . we've checked fuel-pump changed relay and all the usual diagnostics. have we missed something? absolutely but what?

What year model, engine type, and how many miles on the engine? When what the late time a tuneup was done on this vehicle. Including electrical, and filters?
Is it automatic or strait shift? Have you done a code check?

QUESTION: sorry,the car is a 1984 MBZ 500 sel automatic 8 cylinder have changed plugs but not all wires and no filters yet. have checked fuses and some relays have been replaced.  thanks for your response to my questions.

This could be water in the gas. Or contamination in the fuel that has stopped up the filter. The type of stall may indicate the problem. If the vehicle sputtered and stopped like running our of gas, then I would tend to think it is water in the fuel.
If the engine will start I would add fuel treatment to the gas "Techron Black Bottle" is good or some people use Sea Foam.
If the vehicle does not start, I would use some starting fluid to see if it will run from the starting fluid. Do not use this in excess, as it can wash lubrication off the cylinder walls.
If the vehicle runs momentarily and quits, then you may have a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay.
