Mercedes: turn signal lever 1997 E320, high beams, negative terminal

Question
Hello,
I went to flash somebody with my high beams last night and it seemed as though the lever broke.  It is all flimsy now and won't stay in one position.  The high beams now go on and off with the movement of the car as the lever bounces about.  Can you tell me how I might fix this or is it more likely it will need to be replaced?  Thanks.

Answer
Nick,
I would expect that it will require replacement and this will probably require removing the steering wheel unless it is installed in two halves around the column. Before any thing is done requiring the removal of the wheel or any of the switched contained in the column housing, you will want to consult with someone who is familiar with removal. A mechanic or body shop person etc should know how. The Air Bag is packaged in there and you do not want to run the risk of discharging the device. At the very least you need to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery when ever before trying to take off any parts. You may find some additional advise at www.benzworld.com   forums
Good Luck.
