Mercedes: 1992 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel W140, mercedes benz 300sd, clock hand

Question
Please help, what should i do to fix the speedometer and odometer? the lights come on but neither of them move when I drive the car.

Answer
Alex,
I expect that there is a problem with the sending unit or if there is a chain into the transmission. It has broken.
If the Odometer were working then it would probably be a problem with the electronics that drives the clock hand on the MPH gauge.
You can check the chain by removing the cable from where it inserts in the transmission. Take a battery drill and stick the end of the chain in to the chuck. if you remove the opposite end from the instrument cluster you can see it the chain is spinning.
If in fact the chain is broken, you can pull out the pieces and purchase a compelete used cable from the junk yard pull out the chain and insert it in the housing as this will keep you from having to thread the cable through the firewall.
The instrument panels are not generally repairable. You can purchase one from ebay, but will have an inaccurate odometer.
Good Luck
