Mercedes: Catalytic Convertors, catalytic convertors, warranty guide

Question
Hi,
this is a mixed question.  I bought an E240 2001 last December.  It is still covered by a 12 month MBI warranty(I understand it's like an extension of the manugacturer's warranty).  The catalsytic convecters have gone and the quote to replace is €1,700.  The cats are not included or excluded in the MBI Warranty guide.  It does mention 'inlet and exhaust manifolds' and 'inlet and exhaust valves'.  the question is what else could cats be included under?

Many thanks.

Hugh

Answer
In the USA Catalytic Converters are emissions = exhaust system.
They are covered for 100,000 miles or ten years, which ever comes first.

The question is, why did it fail, bad piston rings, bad valve stem seals, excess fuel dumping to exhaust???

Until the base problem has been repaired, you are wasting time/money/energy replacing it.
