Pontiac: confused, gm dealer, pontiac sunfire

Question
We have a 2003 Pontiac sunfire. It started acting funny on me while driving one day. It is an automatic and while I was driving it seemed to almost drop a gear and hit rpm's on and above 3 while hardly even touching the gas. It does this sometimes while it is in neutral it will rev up to 3 or more on the rpm gauge. We went in to a GM dealer and their computer detected a problem with the MAP sensor, but that it reset when we turned the engine off (we have to turn the engine off and on to stop the reving every time it starts to stop it...and it seems to work). So we took it in to our dealership and they inspected something(my wife took it in) and came to the conclusion that it was a weak air conditioning motor. My question is how are the air conditioning motor and the map sensor connected that they would cause this problem?

Answer
A faulty MAP sensor will in MOST cases cause the CHECK ENGINE light on the dash to illuminate.

The problem with the A/C IS possible as just about 1/2 of a second before the A/C compressor engages, The vehicles computer will increase the engines RPM'S to compensate for the load on the engine when the compressor engages. If their is a problem with the compressor engagement it will effect the engine rpm's.
