Pontiac: Pontiac GP not starting, upper intake manifold, coolant level

Question
A month and a half ago my wife complained about her 1998 GP (SE, 3800, no turbo) starting hard, acted like weak battery, turned over just enough to start.  Battery checked good.  The problem continued but intermittent until 2 days ago wouldn't start at all & hasen't since.  Just a single click from the engine when you turn the key.  Lights are all bright, I jumped it last night with the same result.  Starter or cables?

Answer
Could be a starter but it could also be hydrostatic locked due to a coolant leak. The plastic upper intake maniflod burns through and coolant fills the cylinders, locking the motor. Check the coolant level first. If it is low, pull the sparkplugs to see if any coolant is in the cylinders. If there is, you will need to replace the upper intake manifold. This is a fairly common problem.
