Porsche: Porsche - dead battery, fuse puller, jumper cables

Question
I have a 1999 Carrera with a dead battery. As a result, the latch for the hood is locked. Is the any way I can open the hood to jump start the car? AAA could not help. They attempted to give juice throught the cigarette lighter, but to no avail. The latch will not release and the technicians at the dealer are not available until Monday. Any suggestions?

Answer
This is a common and simple problem to resolve.  Remove the black, plastic, fuse box cover from the area down by the driver's left foot.  Inside you'll find a yellow fuse puller that you can use to help pull out a positive contact.  It's red and has a silhouette picture of the car with its front hood open.  Connect your red jumper cable to it once you have pulled it out far enough to see the copper casing.  You may use the car door's latch or hinge as a negative contact.  Do not attempt to start the car!  These contact's will give you just enough power to pop the front hood latch.  Once you have access to the front cargo area, attach your jumper cables to the battery directly to start the car.
