Saab: 1992 saab 900s no spark, crankshaft position sensor, inner fender

Question
hi, when testing the spark, i get 3-4 nice sparks from the coil, then nothing.its a 2.1 non turbo automatic, just replaced fuelpump(got fuel) replaced sparkplugs. tried an amplifier from another saab, still the same...is the ignition ECU controlled on those cars? thank you!

Answer
Dear Ulf:
The signal flow for the ignition subsystem is as follows:
The crankshaft position sensor senses rotation and sends a low voltage signal to the ignition control unit (larger box)located on the left inner fender area: this receives signals from the engine control unit as follows:  "knock sensor", "engine idle signal", and "engine load" . This ignition control unit sends the properly timed low level signal to the ignition spark amplifier (a smaller unit also located on the left inner fender well) which in turn energizes the coil.
The tach signal which is a low level version of the spark  can be monitored on pin 5 of the test socket located in the fuse box. Pin 2 of this socket is chassis ground.

    Hope this helps,
