Toyota: fuel gauge on toyota corolla 1980, gauge needle, voltometer

hi,
the fuel gauge needle only works whenit feels like it...after i fill up it only goes halfway and even if i havnt used the car the next time i start it up the needle nudges just above the empty mark,,even tho it is full..

how do i clean it as i've been told its stuck..the manual i have doenst have any instructions

What is it that you want to clean now?  I'm not exactly sure what it is that you need.  Ummm.. but, iF I had to take a wild guess about your problem, your fuel guage sender is probably dead or the wires to it are corroded.  You can check if the sender is dead by getting a voltometer.  The sender is on the fuel pump, which is under the backseat of your car.
