Volkswagen: shifting too hard, servo repair, generator light

Question
had vacuum servo repair kit put on as there was a tear in the diaphram. Since the kit has been attached the car goes into gear, but shifts too hard. Even when the control valve is adjusted on the control unit, there is no difference in shifting. Any suggestions? I recently purchased a more powerful battery for the car, a bit more powerful. Since the install, the generator light flickers a bit. Could this cause the violent shifting issue, as well as the flickering light?
Thanks
Paul

Answer
Hi Paul,

If the autostick is 'slamming' into gear, I would suspect the vacuum hoses.  They may be cracked or leaking.  If the control valve cannot be adjusted at all to reduce the slam, the hoses are most likely at fault.

You need to get wire reinforced vacuum hose, or it will not work properly.  I just replaced mine, and it runs like new.  The company I used is Belmetric, and I'm sure you can find them on google.

If the generator light flickers at idle once in a while, that is ok.  As long is it turns off as you increase the engine revs.

Take Care.
