Volkswagen: Auto Trans 914, mid engine, auto transmission

Question
Am Handicapped must drive with auto trans and hand driving
controls.

Had an EMPI Super Beetle with sportsamatic trans in 1971.

Since my 914 with manual trans has 1.8 Liter engine like
the Super Beetle with 1.8 Liter (1975) can I put an automatic or at least simi-auto in the 914.

If not, what engine auto trans combination could you
suggest I convert it too, since mid engine??

Hi Keith,

The 1.6 engine for the beetle is very different from the 914.  The Automatic Stick Shift Beetle, Ghia run with a semi-auto transmission.  This allows you to shift with your hand, and eliminate the use of the clutch.

Unfortunately, it will not work in the 914.
