Volkswagen: Passat - Check Brake Pads Light, faulty sensor, brake pads

Question
Despite having the brakes both checked and changed, everytime I start the car the check brake pads message and warning light are displayed. The garage does not know why.

Answer
Hi Lloyd,

The Passat has a little round sensor with a wire attached to it on the front brake pads.  (Depending on the year, I believe there may be sensors on the rear as well.)

It's probably a faulty sensor.   Disconnect one at a time, and see if the light goes out.   The replacement cost for one sensor is about 15 USD.

Let me know how you make out,  this is a common problem.
