Volvo: 2004 xc70 exhaust flange leak, exhaust flange, xc70

Question
Hi Ray, My XC70 was just returned from its 120,000km service, got home parked car and upon starting the next morning a VERY definite exhaust leak was evident, which definately wasnt their before they got their hands on it.Got under car nothing along the exhaust pipe appears to be coming from up high possibly around manifold, cant really tell as cant get to it. Returned car to dealership they say "not their fault" now pulling apart to change manifold gasket, cost $870.00 (australian) and if manifold not flat a further $1000.00au. Do you think just coincidence or something else.??????
Regards,
Arthur

Answer
Arthur,
If it turns out to be the gaskets the shop could not be at fault. There is no way they could cause a gasket to fail. If it were just loose and you see wrench marks on the nut, then maybe someone could have loosened it. If you can not see wrench marks it may have loosened on its own from vibration.
