Volvo: Removing Rear Shock Absorbers, rear shock absorbers, cheater bar

Question
Have an 88 740 wagon; 245K miles and tried to remove rear shocks. I cleaned the lower shock connector area from dirt, sprayed it with pentrating oil to help loosen the 20 yr connection; but with hand tools couldn't get it to budge. Will I need to get help w/ a pressure impact wrench; or will an 1/2" drive socket/wrench give me enough leverage? I'm doing this at ground level- on a Jack stand and jack lifting rear arm as manual describes.

Answer
John,
You are fighting twenty years plus of corrosion so you need more muscle. Yes the larger drive will help and maybe a "cheater" bar on the end. Be prepared if something strips. I have seen some suspension parts so tight that even a good strong impact could not remove the bolt. Had relied on a long breaker bar and some muscle.
