Volvo: 4-wheel drive on 98 Volvo V70 XC, volvo v70 xc, volvo v70

Can you switch out of 4-wheel drive on the '98 Volvo V70 XC?  If you can switch what other 'wheel drive' options are there?
Any idea what sort of gas mileage differences this will bring (4-wheel vs 2-wheel)?  Thanks a bunch!

The vehicle is not considered a 4 wheel drive rather an all wheel drive. Four wheel drive has the ability to switch on and off the 4 wheel drive. All wheel drive, power is transferred to the wheels that have traction, not to the ones that have the least resistance. The system runs completely on it's own, the driver has no switching capabilities. Gas mileage will be less than a front wheel drive, but I have no specs on that. Check the WEB for mileage charts.
