Volvo: leaky steering system and short on cash!, inner tie rod, vough

Question
can i seal the power steering system at the boot? ...

- i think the rack is leaking through the seals at the control arm and i want to seal the boot to keep the fluid in the system and off the ground. -

?: is there any way to seal  this thing at the boot?

?: is there too much pressure for a rubber boot to contain?

?: if i do seal the boot, and it fills with fluid, will the steering system be able to operate normally?

thanks in advance!

Answer
Vough,
If the fluid is leaking into the boots the steering will not work normally. The fluid msut be contained in the rack (steering system) to operate properly. Just by sealing off the boots to avoid fluid on the ground will not counter act the internal leak in the rack. The boots are there to protect the inner tie rod and the rack shaft ends.
