Volvo: 1998 V70 Automatic Volvo, cat converter, fuel pumps

Question
My Volvo had a service in January this year, i have driven it from the uk to Spain. Whilst in Madrid for no reason the car just stopped. After a while it started again. There were no problems until recently when the car has been running great and again stopped for no reason and when it cooled down started again. A garage had a look and tested it fot various things it could be the cat convertor or fuel pump but they really had no idea as it sounded great when running.  I managed to drive the car home stopping every 30 mins to let cool down. I think it could be something to do with fuel maybe the sensor, what do you think as even the garage are not sure.

Answer
Angela,
If the car only runs for 30 minutes at a time something is wrong! My advice is to find a shop that will work on this car drive it the distance it needs to be driven then fix the problem. If the car is running good and no problems are showing, then at that time you can not diagnosis it. Guessing at the cat converter or fuel pumps will only be just that a guess. When your car stops is it due to no fuel or no spark? Yes if the fuel pump stopped then the car would stop. Most times if the cat converter is plugged it would begin to loose power and possibly rattle and even stall, maybe even fail emissions testing.
