Volvo: buying a used volvo, volvo wagon, best cars

Question
I bought my first volvo in 1970. Owned 5 since. Bought a new one in 1988 - I was told that even years are the best. Switched to Honda & Toyota the past 10 years, but now I'm looking for a good used volvo wagon again with 80 to 100k miles on it. Want to spend about 5 to 6 thousand. What would you recommend? A 94, '96, 98 or what? I'm not as familiar with them as I was several years ago. What model and what years do you think are the best, you know, when volvo put out a good one.  Thanks.

Answer
Brad,
The 92 to 95 940's seem to be the best cars that are out there. That is the 4 cyl ones turbo or non. The turbo has more power and therefore is more desired. Get one that you can see service records on and have the car inspected prior to buying it by a qualified Volvo tech. Ask for an inspection that will look the car over for any faults and check things like the brakes and front and rear suspension parts for wear. Get a list of what it will take to put that car in tip top shape, then you have that as a tool to negociate the final price.
