Volvo: ABS dash lamp display, 1998 volvo v70, volvo v70

Question
Hello Jimmy,

I have a 1998 Volvo V70, non-turbo (2.5), 15" wheels. Can normal brake wear cause the ABS dash lamp to display? I had the tires serviced on the vehicle, and the technical specialist informed me that the brake pads are approaching replacement stage. Is brake pad replacement for Volvo's any more tricky than that of - let's say - a Ford Explorer? What type of pads would you recommend? OEM, after market ceramic? Can you direct me to an on-line web-site or a decent repair manual that can walk me through the replacement process? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Michael! Normal brake pads wear will not make the ABS light come on. There is prbably a fault in the system. Most likely with the ABS control module. Go to www.volvotechinfo.com for a manual. As far as the brake pads, I would use the original Volvo pads. I find they work the best.
