Volvo: Transmission Light Blinking, 1995 volvo 960, volvo 960

Question
I have a properly serviced 1995 Volvo 960 Wagon with 80K city miles on it. Yesterday without warning or driving problems, the transmission (arrow) light started blinking as did the (W)inter, (S)port and (E)conomy button lights. The manual says to contact the dealer (which I will) but in the mean time, I like to know if this likely to be a significant repair issue or just a switch/valve issue that is relatively simple. Also, can I drive the car to the dealer or should it be towed? Any input will be sincerely apprecitated. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Kevin! The flashing light means there is a fault in the transmission or one of its sensors. The transmission ECU should store a fault code for the problem. You will need someone who knows Volvo to check it for you. The most likely cause is the gear position sensor. It is best to get it checked out soon before it leaves you stranded!
