Suzuki: Hot Air, samurai jx, dash vents

Question
Hi,Dave,
I have 1988 Samurai JX. Im having a problem with the heater. For one when you put the fan switch on high it barely blows out of the round vents on the dash...yet when you move it down one notch it blows really good. The second thing is that it will only blow cool air out of the round vents on the dash...yet you set the knob to your feet and it blows hot air. And also the front window defrost barely blows. Hope you can help...Thanks

Answer
Two possibilities come to mind regarding fan speed.  A bad switch, or the wiring to the resistance pack is perhaps misconnected.
It will not blow heated air out of the dash vents.  That is how the heater box is built, and changing that would require removal of the dash and the heater box, and then a week or so of re-engineering at the minimum.
The defrost issue is probably caused by the defrost tubes from the lower sides of the heater box to the defrost ducts in the dash being unplugged.
