I have a 2005 suzuki forneza s with 58,000 miles on it
and the air bag light is on. The dealer said the code is P1447. He says the repair is over $1000.00 but will not tell me what the code is for just that it needs to be fixed.

Sorry, I have no experience with late Suzukis.  I know lots about early Samurai/Sidekick/Tracker, and have lots of general knowledge, but have no specific information/info regarding your problem.  I just don't do late cars any more.  I am a heavy duty (over 30,000 lbs) fleet mechanic who has some small 4wd vehicles of my own.
It it highly probable that the Air bag assembly itself is faulty.  
Go to IATN.NET, and use the shopfinder on the home page to find a skilled competent independent technician in your area who may be able to help you, and possibly for less.
