Tips on Buying Cars: state issued id #, car fax report, hi aaron

Hi Aaron,
My husband and I purchased a 1995 Honda Civic from a car auction last weekend. The title on the vehicle has a colorado state issued ID #.. the title doesnt specify if it is a salvaged vehicle..however the car fax report we pulled with the VIN # on the firewall under the hood showed that the car was salvaged....

We are curious how the vehicle could have been given a clean title and been issued a state issued ID #?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Anji,

This is not exactly my area of expertise, but I'll gladly share my opinion with you. I believe it to be far more likely that the Carfax report is accurate and the title somehow is not. How, I could not explain. You might want to check with the auction about what recourse you may have, as the value of the same car is very different when it's salvaged. Good luck!
