Tips on Buying Cars: Car Insurance, chevy malibu, insurance background

Question
Whats the cheapest 5 door car to insure?

Answer
First let me clarify that my insurance background is strictly claims related.  Rate issues are handled by the sales and underwriting side of the business.

I can give you some general guidelines though.
When you speak of insuring a vehicle, there are two areas that have to be addressed, liability and coverage to the vehicle (comp and collision).  Liability rates are based on the potential amount of damage that the vehicle can cause and the likelihood that it will be in an accident.  Since most 5 door cars are roughly equal in size and performance, I wouldn't think that there would be much of a rate spread between them.  Performance may become a rating issue with turbos, superchargers and muscle cars (Vette, Mustang GT etc.).

Rates on comp and collision are going to be directly proportional to the cost of repair and replacement of the car.  American cars are lowest, then Japanese with the European cars generally requiring the highest repair costs and rates.

If I were to take a wild guess, I'd figure the Chevy Malibu Maxx to be the lowest cost five door to insure.

If you'll call an agent with your possible choices they can quickly tell you and I'd be interested to know if my guess is right.

Good Luck!
