Tips on Buying Cars: keeping or selling a car, used, car

Question
I need some advice;

I  just purchased a 2008 Volvo xc90 from my boss for $ 12,000.00. There are 49,500 miles on it and i have been the only driver. Good maintenance.

Am I better off to sell  the Volvo at CARMAX for $18,000.00 ( their offer} and taking the profit to put towards a leased new car OR should I keep the Volvo ?

What would be the wisest decision.?

I don't know the average lifespan of the Volvo XC90.

I'd appreciate your view on this.

sincerely,
Judy

Answer
Hi Judy,

Lets start with Carmax, they are offering you wholesale and will most likely re-sell for somewhere around 24 - 26K.

The average life of a Volvo is top of the list at about 18 plus years, if you have liked the performance so far, keep it. the car is well build and will serve you for many years to come. If the novelty driving the vehicle has worn off and you need a change then it becomes a different matter, and $18,000 offered is to low.

Everybody should have a boss like yours,,, if your not going to keep the car then feel free to let me help you negotiate a valid deal once you have found a vehicle that plays on your emotions.

Summary - Personally I would keep the Volvo.
