Tips on Buying Cars: car for disabled person, mercedes a160, car for disabled person

Question
Hi! I know you are not in the UK., but I'm hoping you may be able to offer some advice. My mother has a spinal curvature which causes her a lot of pain and difficulties with mobility. She has been a fine driver when younger (she is 78), but is having terrible problems finding a small car with light steering which she can drive. She currently has a Mercedes A160 auto, but finds it too heavy on steering when manoeuvring. We have tried various cars, but really need some expert advice. Can you suggest a small car available in Europe that is really light and easy to handle? It seems some front-wheel drive small cars can be very heavy at slow speeds. Auto would be nice, but light handling & steering is probably more of a priority. Thanks.

Answer
I'm not familiar with European auto models. I recently test drove the American version of a 2010 Toyota Camry. Both the 2010 4 and 6 cylinder models have very easy steering. The 2009 models are somewhat harder to steer. Also, you may be able to have your present car's steering modified with a more powerful steering pump called "zero effort steering".
