Tips on Buying Cars: Used car purchase with poor credit, poor car, toyota dealer

Question
I hope you can help. My husband & I are needing to purchase a vehicle NOW. My poor car is stranding me & it is just time. His credit score is 584 & mine is 566. We are looking at a 2006 PT Cruiser with 23000 miles. It is at a large Toyota dealer in town. We have what could be classified as Situational bad credit. We had a large decrease in pay a few years ago & things just spiraled on the credit cards. The asking price on the Cruiser is 9995. We have 4000.00 to use for a down payment. I also have our w-2's and pay stubs to prove our income. Do you think, from experience, that the dealer will work with us? Will having such a large down payment help?

Answer
Lashoma,

Thanks for your question.  Absolutely the dealer will work with you.  You are coming to the table with a large down payment, and you are committed with your stips.  There is NO reason that you should not be able to get into that car.  Now understand this, your rate will be high, and you need to be prepared for that. But other than that you should be fine to get approved.

Thanks - JB
