Tips on Buying Cars: purchasing a cae, paul thanks, question the answer

Question
Bought a car yesterday and traded in my old car.  I still have my old car and did not take possession of the new car.  Signed all the paperwork and got 0% financing through the dealership.  We realized the car did not have everything we wanted---nobody did anything intentionally wrong, the process just started moving too fast.   I have called the dealer and said I do not want the car.   I still have my old car, they just have the title.  Should I have any problem getting my title back and cancelling the sale.   thank you

Answer
Paul,

Thanks for your question.  The answer is very simple.  If you did not take possession of the new vehicle and you have your old vehicle, then you do not owe the dealership anything, you are not the legal owner of the new vehicle, and they MUST give you the title to your vehicle back.  In order to become the legal owner of a vehicle, you must have taken delivery of that vehicle, and you have not.  Just get your title back, and you are done.  Understand that the dealership MAY try to scare you into completing the purchase.  They don't have a single leg to stand on, so just hold firm and get your title back.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
