Tips on Buying Cars: 1985 Cadillac Eldorado, bad cars, bad deals

Question
I have the opportunity to bid on this vehicle. It has 133,000 miles, interior is immaculate, exterior has some rust, but no other damage. Car has been sitting for approximately 6 months. Sounds like brakes may need replacing. Would you bid on this vehicle if given the opportunity? And what would you bid. Kelly Blue Book only goes back to 1988 with fair condition being listed at $750.00. Is there major upkeep for a car like this and doesn't a car like this able to last for up to 200,000 miles? Thanks.

Answer
As this particular car was one of the worse cars every built by any manufacture in the last 30 years, I'd likely give about $50.00 for it and only if I could then double my money on the scrap weight value.  I might save the front seat for my teenager's romp room as they were really comfy and maybe mount the dashboard on the wall as they looked really cool.

GM made some horrible cars during the last two decades which is why they are now begging for our tax dollars to bail them out.  Nowadays, they actually build a very good car but it is the ones like the mid 80's to mid 90's Cadillacs they have sealed a poor reputation for quality in the eyes of buyers and put them in their current market position.

Honestly, I'd be more likely to buy a Yugo and use it as a planter as I don't have enough plants to fill an Eldorado.

This isn't the car you want unless you already have some poor sucker lined up to buy it and double your money.
