Tips on Buying Cars: Delivery of a vehicle, oshawa ontario, gm products

Question
I have a Chevy 2500 truck on order, that was supposed to be built on June 20th.  I am being told that it still has not arrived.  Would it take 18+ days for the vehicle to make it to the dealer.  The dealer is in Dallas.

Answer
Yes, for several reasons.  It's been a while since I sold GM products, but I do remember that one of their larger C/K truck plants is in Oshawa, Ontario, just east of Toronto.  Between rail and truck, it could easily take that long for it to be delivered (if that's where it was built).  Secondly , and this (of course) is not what you want to hear, but vehicles do get damaged in transit.  They're supposed to disclose "major" damage, but I can tell you they don't, so I would suggest you CAREFULLY look the truck over when it does arrive.  Also, you have to picture this huge yard where the trains drop off the vehicles to be switched to truck carrier.  If they manage to clear it out, and your truck is the first one off of the next train, it goes back into the far corner.  Then they work their way back to it as they clear the lot once again.  "First in, last out," so to speak.  If it takes much longer, make sure you check the truck for evidence of repaint and/or body repair.  If you're not sure what to look for, take someone with you that does.
