Tips on Buying Cars: Car lease contract, cadillac dts 2006, cadillac dts

Question
Hello Jeremy,
This is my question, I have a Cadillac DTS 2006 leased inJuly 2006, the car started giving problems days after leaving the dealer, since then has been 12 times in the dealer 8 times because of the AC, they have change the compressor 3 times, the last one 2 days ago, I contacted an attorney to start a lemon law claim, and of course I have grounds for that, but they are talking about a cash settlement of few thousands( 4 or 5). I live in Florida, I do not want the same car, or any from that manufacturer, is there a way to cancel a lease?
Please I am desperate, I do not trust that car anymore, we pay $700 a month plus insurance, we still have until august 2009 to finish the lease.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance
Silvia

Answer
Silvia,

Unfortunately you don't have many options here.  The best option is to go thrum an attorney like you are and proceed with the lemon law.  You will be required to go thrum arbitration rather than court.  If they are offering you $4000 to $5000 plus taking the car back, this is a good deal, and I would make your attorney have something stated that you do not have to purchase another GM product, which should not be a problem.  Other than that, you don't have much wiggle room.  That is the point of the Lemon Law.  It is a pain, and it takes a long time to go thrum the process, but it is the best way to address the problem.

I realize that you don't trust the vehicle or the manufacture anymore, and with just cause.  Just remember that vehicles are still man made and will have problems. There are a lot of DTS's out there that do not have those problems, you just happened to be the one that got the lemon.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck in this unfortunate situation.

Thanks -

Jeremy
