Tips on Buying Cars: 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, 2002 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire

Question
QUESTION:  Jeremy
I am interested in buying a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire Sedan.  I have known the owner for 2 years now, and have never heard anything negative about the car. It appears to be in very good condition.  I have been searching the internet for any defects that the car may have, and for any mechanical problems, that may be to pricey to look after, as of right now, I haven't found anything that is sending a red flag, telling me stop. My question is, what would be a fair price for the year and make of this vehicle? And do you have any knowledge of any kind of mechanical defects that I should be aware of now, or in the future.
Thank you
Sara

ANSWER: Sara,

I think you are wise in checking for some research on this vehicle.  In order to answer your question, I would need to know the following:

State you are located in
Mileage on the vehicle
Exact equipment

You can also go to www.kbb.com to get a value of the vehicle.

As far as problems, the sunfire is a pretty established vehicle during that model year.  You will have normal problems, but like with any vehicle if you continue your normal maintenance you should be fine.

Hope this helps.

Jeremy

QUESTION: I live in Alberta, Canada.  The Car has 120,000 kms.  And I do believe that it is fully loaded.  What exactly to you mean "normal problems"?. I hope that I have answered your questions
Sara

Answer
Sara,

I think that the vehicle will be worth no more than $7000 to $8000.  As far as "normal problems", what I mean by this is that every vehicle will have problems, they are all man made still.  This means you may have to have your heater/air conditioner maintained a few times, or might have normal wear and tear.  This is nothing to be alarmed about.  The things that might go wrong on this vehicle are normal maintenance items that every vehicle has.  If you keep the vehicle properly maintained, you will not have any major problems.

Good Luck, and enjoy your new vehicle.

Thanks - Jeremy
