Tips on Buying Cars: getting out of a lease car, bmw z4, getting out of a lease

Question
i have a bmw z4 and i have sign a 3 year lease. i have had this car for only one year and i want to get out of this lease. i drive way too much to have this car i am allowed only 12000 miles per year and i have driven almost 18500miles already. so if i keep this for the remaining of the term i will easily be over by 20000miles. so how can i turn this in the cheapest way possible. and if i turn this in now what will be my losses.

Answer
You'll have to talk to your dealer to find out what the payoff is vs. what the car is currently worth.  Z4s are almost always playtoys, which means mileage is usually extremely low (they only get driven on the weekends, or just once in a while to work).  Nearly 20,000 miles on a one-year-old example is going to hurt the value of the car, no doubt.  This could be an expensive proposition, so let me suggest an alternative.  Why not keep the car, drive it rarely, and get a decent used car to keep the miles on the Z4 within reason?  You'll still get to enjoy the car, with no mileage penalty to pay at the end of the lease.
