Tires: Use 265-75r16 instead of 265-70r16 on a Nissan Pathfinder?, nissan pathfinder, tire specification

Question
The tire specification on the door jamb of my '05 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4wd, calls for P265-70R16 tires. Can I safely use 265-75R16 tires instead, as long as there is clearance in my wheel wells for the additional diameter?

Also, I tow a fairly heavy boat & trailer with this vehicle. Can I switch to an LT tire? The "P" tires that are currently on it, seem to squat a lot under load, and I would like to go with something with a stiffer sidewall. Comfort is not as important as function, as far as I'm concerned.

Answer
Mike,

According ti Discount Tire, a P265/75R16 will rub on your vehicle.

Also, I am not a fan of using LT type tires in place of P type tires - and vice versa.  LT tires are quite different than P type tires and require about 15 psi more pressure to carry the same load.

But you need to know if your are towing within the limitations of your vehicle.  That information is in your owners manual.  If you are not, then not only are the tires going to be a problem, but the drivetrain and the chassis are also likely to have problems.

And lastly, if you are towing within the limitations specified by the vehicle manufacturer, and you are still concerned about the squat of the tires, add a few psi ( 3 to 5) and see if that helps.
