Tires: 4ply snow tires for 1994 dodge light duty 2500 pickup, studded snow tires, oe options

Question
the mfg. recommends LT 225 75R 16" load range D tires on the door of the vehicle. I realize this is the size recommended to handle the possible load/weight and towing capacity of the vehicle. My question is if I have a "like new" set of 245 75R 16" studded snow tires which are a 4 ply rating (2,405 lbs and 56 lbs max pressure} can I use these on my truck for winter driving if I am not pulling or hauling heavey loads at that time of year? I do have LT 265 75R 16" load range D tires I use during the dry months for hauling and pulling heaviy loads.

Answer
Dear Randy,
Thank you for using AllExperts!
You seem to be more aware of your tire's load capacity than most. My usual 'disclaimer' about replacement tire overall diameter #3% max.# might have a little more leeway for a working pickup truck, and I've seen up to 6% diameter variation for some OE options for other pickup trucks.
I would say go ahead, with the following warning:  The LT245/75R16 LRC have a max. load of 2,205 lbs. per tire at 50 psi compared to 2,335 lbs. per tire @  65 psi for your LT225/75R16 LRD tires.  You must NOT overload the LT245s.  There might be a WHEEL limitation for the LT245s, however:  LT245/75R16 requires a MINIMUM 6.5" rim width  whereas your original Dodge wheels might only be 6.0" wide.  You'd better check that before going ahead.
I am also presuming that the 16" wheels are the original wheels, as they would be specifically designed for the LT tire (flange contour).
