Tires: tires for mazda CX9 2008, mazda cx9, united arab emirates

Question
QUESTION: Barry, my CX9 tires are OEM Bridgestone 245,50,R20 102v Dueller 104 bought the car on Feb 2008. many tire shops told me they are worn-out even though it's only 45000 km. I am not satisfied with the brand so I am looking for another brand like goodyear, continental or michelin that lasts longer. I would like to know other possible sizes which may give more comfort on the road as I intend to travel a long trip with family and luggage (5000km)
I live in United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. thanks in advance

ANSWER: Rody,

First, I'm sorry. I work for a major manufacturer of tires and shouldn’t make brand specific comments.

Second, you live in one of the worst climates for tires, so tire wear should be the least of your concerns.  BTW 45K is plenty good for your environment.

Third, fitting tires to vehicles is very complex.  It's not only about load carrying capacity, but also about clearing the bodywork and frame.

I just don't have access to the measurements that are needed to be sure you are given good guidance.

Tire Rack and Discount Tire both do these measurements and are aware of what fits and what doesn't.  Plus they also pay attention to load carrying capacity.

I recommend you consult their web sites and follow their recommendations.

QUESTION: Thanks Barry
what is the shelf lifetime for tires in general.
I found tires manufactured in mid 2009
shall I go ahead and get them?
And does wider tires mean more fuel consumption and more difficult handling
e.g. Instead of 245.50.20 I'll go for 265.50.20?

Answer
Rody,

It depends on how the tires were stored, but certainly 2009 tires should be fine.

Wider tires is directionally towards more fuel consumption and more grip, but the differences between tires can be much greater than a simple change in size.
