Tires: Tire tread/traction and temp, yokohama tires, emergency maneuvers

Question
QUESTION: I just bought an 06 Jeep and it had 4 Yokohama tires on it but when the dealer was doing the inspection found that one of them had gone bad so they replaced it the Yoko was a tread of 450 traction A Temp A the Goodyear they replaced it with is a tread of 340 traction A temp B is there much of a difference to worry about or should i take the car back and have them match the tread/traction and temp with the other 3..thanks in advance

ANSWER: Richard,

Is your Jeep a 4X4 or AWD?

If it is, then all 4 tires have to be the same size, make, model and state of wear, or the drivetrain could fail.

So, yes this is a problem, but not the one who inquired about.

QUESTION: actually its a Limited 2 WD  sorry forgot that part

Answer
Richard,

The best situation for 2WD is to have all 4 tires the same size, make, model and state of wear.  The further you are away from that, the worse it is.

The problem is that cars tend to pivot around the odd tire in emergency maneuvers.  The fact that the odd tire is a different brand crosses the line in my opinion.  The fact that there are differences in the UTQG ratings may or may not be an additional issue.  UTQG ratings are somewhat variable in interpretation.

I would point out, that if one tire in a set of 4 had gone bad, it might be that whatever reason that tire went bad might be related to the tires themselves.  Then again it might not.
