Tires: hub threads, small portion, screws

Question
Hi, I rotated my tires today but unfortunately when the tire fitter tried to screw the screws back into the hub threads using the air compressed gun he damaged one of them, so the screw just didn't screw into it anymore.
He used a hand operated threader to fix the thread and then used it on the other 3 threads as well even if it was not necessary.
The dimension of the threader was just the size of the screw and before he used it I noticed that just a small portion of the original thread in the hub was damaged.
In your opinion did he cause any serious damage? Do you think he damaged the other threads by using that tool? Can the saftey of the wheel be compromised?
Thanks
Louis

Answer
Louis,

Rethreading a wheel stud is a common practice and if done correctly, most of the time it works just fine.  The only problem would be if the thread was damaged beyond repair.  How would one determine that?  If the nut doesn't torque up.

So if it is holding the torque, it is very likely OK.

And, No, doing the other threads would not result in additional damage.
