Tires: tire date of manuf., mold number, dot code

Question
I read your answer as to number codes, what about letter codes? My goodyear forturas have 4DHR. another has M6TO?

Answer
Vernon,

If these numbers are in the DOT code they are plant codes.  If they are molded in the sidewall area they are most likely mold number and position.

The DOT is typically located near the bead area and are squally sequenced as:  XX XX XXXX XXXX or XX XXX XXX XXXX the last four places are the week and year of production.
