Tires: Subaru Impreza Tires, bridgestone tires, subaru impreza

Question
I have a Subaru Impreza with Bridgestone tires.  The ID on the tires is P205/55 R16 89V.  The question is do I need a V rating for handling and stability or just for speed?  Can I go with an H rating?  These seem to be cheaper.  Is an 91V better than an 89V?

Answer
Mark,

The rule is to use the same speed rating that came with the vehicle.  However, it is more costly.  But if you go to a lower speed rating, you are likely to lose some of the crisp handling.  But I wouldn't go lower than H.

Is 91V better than 89V?  Sort of, but mostly it's just a difference in the way the tire is labeled.  P metric tires are rated at 35 psi and Non P metric tires are rated at 36 psi - hence the difference in load index.
